A tipster called the following trivia items on the IMDb page for Transformers 2 to our attention:
The college scenes were shot in the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University. Both schools are old rivals; when students of the University of Philadelphia heard that Bay had chosen to re-shoot scenes at Princeton and use Princeton’s name in the movie, they were outraged and a boycott was attempted. Fortunately, the issue was resolved peacefully.
Neither the University of Pennsylvania nor the Princeton University are named in the film, because both schools’ bodies felt that the Judy Witwicky scenes were damaging to their image.
IMDb is user-generated, so take the info with a rather large grain of salt, ’cause we definitely don’t remember any boycott attempts. (Though we admit that we technically have been boycotting Transformers since the early ’90s, the last time we remember having any use for the toys.)
