Be Still My Tequila-Loving Heart

Picture 1Move over, Mad4: looks like there’s a new chica in town. Jose Garces’s University City outpost Distrito is opening a new student-friendly Cantina that will replace their first floor dining space this fall.

Offering fruity cocktails for $5, $2-3 mexican beers and a reduced priced food menu, the Cantina at Distrito is scheduled to open on August 31. And unlike their margarita-pumping competitors to the east, these prices will be available every day after 4 p.m. without any sort of annoying happy hour cut-off time. This is even better than the student special they offered in the spring!

Many of the drinks will be tequila-based, but options like Spiked Tea and a passionfruit limeade will use other liquors. Shooters are expected to appear on the menu as well, featuring more authentic ingredients like horchata (Mexican rice milk) and tabasco sauce.

An official menu has yet to be decided upon, but we do hear brand new TVs are scheduled for installation on the lower level. Phillies fans, you too can rejoice in tequila-drenched bliss.

Be sure to check out Street come fall for a detailed review of the Cantina. Until then…¡salud!

The Frozen Watermelon Margarita is amazing as is the Blue Demon Mojito :) And I had the best nachos and chips&guac that I’ve ever had, ever.
