This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

Not funny, guys! This button is our inspiration. We cringe at the thought of its defacement. Someone worked really hard on this button, and now they are probably really sad! If you know what this means or feel like ratting someone out, take it to the comments.

pi + eng = is there something the engineering kids aren’t telling us? UNCOOL.
they did it on a door in the engineering quad too. :(
See: http://underthebutton.com/2008/11/on-top-of-the-button/ Our totally awesome and temporary fliers got us a creepy blog comment, and this monstrosity gets to see the light of day? WTFMATE!
“Someone worked really hard on this button, ”
By someone you mean Claes Oldenburg, the artist right? Nice reporting.
So much for Penn’s Year-long theme of “Arts and the City”…
That has got to be some of the poorest graffiti I’ve ever seen. Definitely not done by real “taggers”, they have strict rules about where and where not to tag. Tagging a work of art is the ultimate “toy” move. (Google some graffiti message boards, its actually amazing how much a group of vandals police and regulate.)
So it was not done by real graffiti artists, then who? And why?
I know the conservationist who cleans the button and other sculptures around campus. He cleans it once a year and the University also hires people to paint it (its coated with automobile paint). They just painted it this summer.
Pshhhh, we know all about Claes. We love the Button: http://underthebutton.com/2009/11/in-defense-of-the-button/
But seriously, this graffiti business pisses us off. We heard there was some in the Engineering Quad (see above comments) and on the Skulls house.
