he should know that it’s “people who” never “people that.” he’s not going to turn people on with bad grammar if being a professor is his selling point…

Please tell me this professor works in the humanities and is familiar with Edward Said’s Orientalism. That would just make it so much better.
“that” is the only demonstrative pronoun that can be appropriately used in conjunction with both things and people, so both “people who” AND “people that” are grammatically correct.
Do you guys want to join our staff as copy editors or what? If so, you’re all hired

that may be, but in newspaper articles, blog posts, etc it’s always “people who,” and i would venture to put craigslist in that category
