McDonald’s Can Cluck It

Outside McDonald’s this afternoon, a bunch of Little People in chicken costumes marched in circles chanting, “I am not a nugget!” while their fellow PETA protesters gave out pamphlets for McCruelty.com and shouted, “Cluck you, McDonald’s!” Also, they appeared to all emerge from a giant pink SUV stretch limo. None of this is an exaggeration. More photos after the jump.

THE PETA-MOBILE. We guess they are picking the “save the chickens” over the “save the environment” battle.

We honestly do not even know what to make of this.

Did they really think the people who are currently buying nuggets don’t know they come from chickens? Oh PETA, get a life.

So eating chicken isn’t PC/ethical/whatever, but having little people run around dressed in ridiculous bird costumes, in reference to not being “nuggets,” is?

By makes no sense on November 16, 2010 at 4:35 pm

@ ?, i dont agree with peta, but your point makes even more sense. how in the world is dressing up like a chicken unethical? you’re retarded. bye.

How creative, I love it! Aren’t the ‘chickens’ a professional group based from NY, Centerfold Strips?

By Ali on November 16, 2010 at 4:35 pm

I used to eat chickens until I found out that they were as smart as dogs, so I actually think that most people don’t really know what they are eating. And being little doesn’t make these guys children- respect their right to make their own decisions about how they make a statement.

@ Ali, you may be an exception. A lot of people are not affected by knowledge of the kind you stated–chickens being as smart as dogs. There are still people out there that eat dogs. What’s more, there are people out there that claim to rather eat a random stranger than their dog…so intelligence doesn’t matter much for them. And given a cannibalistic situation in which a genius and their mother were menu options I doubt they’d eat their mother because she’s less intelligent. Most people eat their steaks and don’t care how it got there or they don’t eat steak because they care about how it got there. There are very few people in between for PETA to convert. They primarily end up preaching to the choir or annoying those that disagree with them.

Our company Centerfold Strips http://www.centerfoldstrips.com has teamed up with Peta to expose the truth about the inhumane ways that McDonalds kills their chickens. Here are the facts: McDonalds cuts the wings and legs off of the chickens while they are STILL ALIVE. They then, throw them in a vat of scalding oil to fry them while they are STILL ALIVE! Our protest is simlply to make the publice aware of these inhumane practices, and for executives at McDonalds to change to a more humane although costly method of processing chickens. Chickens before profits my friends! Thanks for your support. Cluck You McDonalds!

Maybe all you should grow a heart. Factory farmed chickens have the worst lives imaginable just to feed you ignorant idiots.

Way to go! Most people don’t realize how chickens are treated in this industry. Who says we are superior? Just because we are bigger and can treat them like objects with no feelings? They have a place on this planet too and they don’t deserve to be treated like dirt under our feet!

Awsome! Funny but also connects people to the animals that r suffering… a little sacrifice like dressing up as a chicken to maybe get through to people the horrors these animals face every day of their lives… I would say its well worth it:)

Does anyone else think that the people in the chicken suits appear to be rediculously short? Proof that you need meat as part of a balanced diet?

By ? on November 16, 2010 at 4:35 pm

@Tom: They’re Little People, Tom, not just little people. It’s an offensive play on the word “nugget.”

By Brian on November 16, 2010 at 4:35 pm

Just a side note, do we know if chicken nuggets actually have chicken in them??….I think they might just be reformatted SPAM…
I like the pink limo though…where do you rent something like this.?

The whole point of an effective protest is to be extreme and attract attention. This is what PETA is known for, and I am sure they are pretty darn proud of it. If it was subtle, there would probably be no media coverage. Before you judge protesters, please try to be aware of what they are actually protesting. We do need animal products to live a healthy life. Excessive meat has been linked to obesity, and various types of cancers. People who eat a plant-based diet have been known to have a healthier and ideal body weight, and live longer. This has been proven. You can get all your nutrients from a vegetarian/vegan diet, and take a B12 supplement. This has been confirmed by numerous doctors. Ask Dr. Oz. Many celebrities and professional athletes have adopted a vegan diet, including Bob Harper from the biggest loser. He is 45 years old and looks like he is 28. Please educate yourself before you make assumptions. Read books and watch documentaries.

i love how they protest eating meat, but they drive around in a gas-guzzling suv limo. so much for being ethical

By Man for the Ethical Treatment of Plantae on November 16, 2010 at 4:35 pm

I personally protest against people who eat vegetables instead of animals. Vegetables are peaceful, they drink water and feed on light. They don’t kill other living things to survive. Animals eat either other animals, or plants (plants are alive – they feed and reproduce, that’s the definition of life).
In my opinion people who eat only plants are monsters. If you must eat, then eat another monster, like a cow or a chicken.

Oh yeah, also, experiencing pain requires an animal to be conscious (to clarify what consciousness is: humans are conscious, computers are not) One requirement of consciousness is self-awareness. Some animals do pass tests of self-awareness but most fail those tests.
But of course, PETA won’t tell you those tests even exist. Instead of using scientific evidence they will appeal to emotion and go “Look at that poor cute little bunny, can’t you see in his eyes how sad he is to be locked in a, clean, warm cage full of food ?”.
PETA also won’t explain to you the difference between a conscious action and a reflex. A computer can be programmed to say that it is in pain when you unplug a USB device… So why believe that an animal that lets out a cry when it is injured must necessarily feel pain and the cry is not just a reflex? Believing animals are conscious only because they are animals, like humans, is a fallacy of over-generalization.

PETA would get me on their side much faster if they could show me evidence that animals really can experience pain like we do, instead of protesting as if they want to force their beliefs on everyone.
And by the way, I would not eat an animal that is conscious. For me it’s not about being pro or anti-meat ; I simply think that if an animal can suffer, then it’s wrong to hurt him. If an animal can’t suffer, then no harm done by killing it. Prove chickens suffer and I won’t eat chicken ever again.

Not to mention their methods are often tasteless. The way they use women in their campaigns makes it look like they like animals more than we, humans. That needlessly over-sized SUV also makes it look like they don’t care about the environment (pollution directly impacts wild animals, so WHAT THE HELL??! Are they just hypocrites?). There have been allegations of PETA distributing shocking advertisement to children (e.g. “Your mommy is a murderer” ads).
I know sometimes it’s necessary to shock to get attention, but their methods go against the message they want to send. Why would I want to support a group that seems to think animals are better than me? How could I believe they really care about animals when they don’t seem to care about the environment? It gets them attention but in such a way that hurts their credibility.

Finally, I’d like to see recent footage of how animals are killed to be turned into food. I know years ago they got footage of how KFC killed chickens, but I would have thought things have changed, laws were made to forbid that, inspections happen to make sure meat processing plants respect the law…
If PETA or anybody else wants to convince me this sort of thing still goes on, then they need to show me evidence. Chickens dancing in front of a McDonald is not proof. And if PETA thinks they made me aware of a problem, no, they haven’t. I will not go and look for evidence that supports their claims, I don’t have time to do their research. It’s up to them to bring that evidence to me. And if they can’t bring me that evidence soon, I’ll end up thinking “Yeah, so I guess they had no evidence. I guess that shows they’re making stuff up and can’t be taken seriously”. It does not help them at all.
