Parlez Vous Groupon?
Massively successful daily deal
newsletter Groupon has been earning quite a bit of buzz lately (a massive buyout offer from Google here, a $15 billion valuation there), and now it’s inspiring foreign knockoffs!
While they’re by no means the first company to ape the Groupon model, two Penn alums are in the process of taking the deal-a-day thing global. Anton Bernstein and Joshua David have already launched a similar company (Ouffer) in Australia, and now they’ve got their sights set on dominating the French email-coupon market. Despite not knowing a word of Francais between the two of them, they’ve taken their venture across the pond and are making an honest go of total France domination. They’ve already locked down a significant chunk of funding from Smart&Co., and it looks like they’ve already got big things in mind for the rest of Europe.
Take heed, all: you too can launch a successful, well-funded copycat product overseas without knowing the language! Fulfill your dreams of travel and entrepeneurship all at once with your spiffy Penn education.
