Don’t Screw With This SEPTA Granny

“You need to shut your stupid mouth” is probably the mildest thing this elderly woman had to say to a surly passenger in this soon-to-be viral video shot on SEPTA. In fact, the altercation between the woman and her young friend is so gritty ‘n real ‘n stuff that it was featured on that internet gossiphole, Gawker. As Penn students forced to use SEPTA to get to Center City or Don Memo (it’s always one or the other), we see this situation on the reg– we all have at least one horrific SEPTA story to share. What’s yours? Tell us in the comments.

I know these posts are supposed to be funny, but so often they come off sounding bitchy and entitled in a tone deaf way that doesn’t seem intentional.

“As Penn students forced to use SEPTA to get to Center City”

No one is forced to use SEPTA. You can walk, ride a bike, take a cab, or have a car on campus. If you can’t do any of these other options, you can choose to stay in West Philly if you think SEPTA is so bad. You could also choose to go to a different University and not live in Philadelphia. SEPTA isn’t always clean, or nice smelling, or quiet, but you still ride it because it’s the option you chose to optimize you experiences.

@Not Forced To Use SEPTA:

You’re right, no one is forced to use SEPTA. But who walks from University City to, say, Old City in the winter? And is it really financially practical for an average student to buy a bike, use a cab for every trip downtown, or have a car (!) on campus? Using SEPTA is not an “option you choose to optimize your experiences,” but the only realistic choice for most Penn students. And having to deal with the difficulties of public transportation is a frustrating reality for any urban dweller- anyone who’s ever been on a subway knows that.

I agree. People should bike or run or walk to Center City. And SEPTA isn’t even that bad. It’s not like people have to cram a lot of the time (think rush hour in NY or Tokyo), and it isn’t too costly.
Either way, yes, that sentence sounded mean.

Ian shutup. You are a horrible, horrible writer. Also you are typical of ignorant out of town Penn shitheads.

My horrible SEPTA stories usually involve 50 Penn kids, closet white dweebs with their obligatory asian arm candy, yelling in their nasal whines that can only from years of practiced insular condescension about how isn’t it cray cray that Old City is like almost in the ghetto and like good thing we can afford to take taxis back to campus and not take the black people bus with crazy old ladiesLOL!!!!

Philadelphia- eternally ungrateful yours,
Penn undergraduates
