Some People Really Wanna Be In The Passion Pit

Tryna get floor passes for the Fling concert? Good luck! Looks like these kids are already lined up for tomorrow’s big ticket sale.

Update: Check out the new tailgaters in the bunch after the jump.

Update: Want floor passes? Get in line now. We’re hearing reports of a line hundreds of people long.

From some late-night tipsters: “Line’s already about 50 people long. Be warned.” Oh jeez.

By Abe S. on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Probably just SPEC trying to drum up attention for the disappointing acts

By disappointed on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

its absolutely ridiculous that SPEC isn’t moving the stage back and making this a floor-only or majority floor show. its not like the logistics would be any more complicated than having different sections. the vast majority of EDM shows that take place in similar arena type venues are floor/standing room only.

this ain’t OAR, people are going to dance not to watch tiesto press play on his laptop and fist pump.

to spend so much money on a great dj such as tiesto demonstrates SPEC’s ability to relate successfully to the changing music tastes of today’s penn student. to not move the stage/alter the structure of the concert to accommodate said music is the epitome of an irresponsible and frankly somewhat lazy organization that would rather just “go with the flow” and do whats been done in years past than to really cater to the needs of the student body which it serves.

just move up the stage, SPEC. do you want to be remember as having thrown one of the best fling concerts in recent memory, or as having wasted the enormous potential of the same concert?

just remember, its never too late to change it, the only thing stopping you is yourself.

By Laidback Luke on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Wanna get even more pumped for Tiesto?

Come to Dirty South and Laidback Luke at Starlight Ballroom next week.

By Disgruntled on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

stupid fraternities probably just sent all their pledges. I need a floor pass!

By bitter on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

spec should a) push the stage back to accommodate more floor passes because clearly that’s what the student body wants, and b) should not sell the majority of fling passes on one day early in the morning, because this is what happens and it’s not fair and kind of ridiculous.

and to all the frats who sent pledges: have fun at your sausage fest on the floor.

By Dick2 on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

is it that hard to move back the stage?

By gawd damnit on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

utb, y u post this tonight?? now all the overzealous bitches be runnin to get in the line. i am not fucking waiting in line for 7 hours to see fucking tiesto. fffffuuuuuu

By brononymous on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

SPEC doesn’t care about doing what makes sense for the student body based on their needs, they would rather do what is most convenient and easy for them. Why sell different quantities of floor passes on different days when you can roll up at 10AM one morning and sell them all at once?

Heck, even SPEC-TRUM managed to stagger their tickets with their Aziz Ansari show. Step it up Spring Fling committee.

Or maybe you’d just prefer to keep your current system of limited and exclusive floor passes so that you can dangle them in front of people as a way of getting students to show up to your crappy events that no actually wants to go to.

Point in case:

The cards are on the table SPEC, now do something about it.

By i have an exam/homework/early mandatory class tomorrow on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

and uh, don’t have a team of pledges to get me a pass. but I would like one. Help, SPEC?

-the average penn student

By I'm nocturnal anyways but on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

This just seems irresponsible. If SPEC is going to good-as make people stay up all night, at least do it on a weekend? Or make more room on the floor?

By smh on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

This is why the main act needs to be a rapper or pop star, so the frat bros and eurotrash stay far away.

By Common Sense on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

They really just need to move back the stage, this is a different kind of concert

By tiesto fan on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

if you were thinking about coming at 6 am, don’t bother. only people in line at this point are getting tickets and the rest are alllll gone. sorry amigos, have fun in the standssss

By @Disappointed on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

You hit the nail on the head.

Who the fuck wants to dance on a bleacher?

By Common Sense on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

SPEC should turn the stage around so that the entire football field is the floor area.

By bitterly disappointed on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

@DISAPPOINTED you’re so right. The organization of the tickets sales and the concert is ridiculous. Just make room on the floor, SPEC!

Like everyone else has been saying, you need to have floor tickets to really enjoy this sort of concert.

By OPEN YR EYES on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

i really don’t know WHY everybody freaks out over the Fling concert anyway. Its not like we live in the middle of nowhere, where you just dream every year of some band, andy band you’ve heard of to come and play. Then Penn picks someone from pop music’s “C” list, sells tickets for twice what their worth, and divides the crowd into 2 categories based on how much money you have, just bc its fun to perpetuate social inequality, and the sad thing is, every year ppl EAT IT UP!
Come on, we live in Philadelphia, there are awesome shows every week of the year only a walk/subway ride away, where everybody can dance on the floor, not just frats with pledges to do their bidding, most with a lot fewer rules than the University feels the need to enforce, and some that go all night.

By @disappointed on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

By RUDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

False advertisement. Selling tickets earlier than expected. Not moving back the stage when CLEARLY no one wants to fist pump in the bleachers. That’s just rudeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Let’s make everyone happy and make this into a mini-ULTRA? (although probably nothing close to the real thing but better than nothing for those of us who can’t go to miami this weekend) PUSH THE DAMN STAGE BACK, let’s have this party on the football field like COMMON SENSE says. and promise, you’ll go down in history.

By UMAD on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

There are a bunch of people in line that are not in frats or are pledges, so the gdis should stop hating. Plenty of people are there who just played it heads up and got in line early.
Not that I agree with how SPEC is doing this, being in the stands is going to suck for an edm concert, but don’t hate on frats.

By MORE COMMON SENSE on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Yeah, UTB posting this had absolutely NOOOO effect on people deciding to camp out and be crazy…

By Penn Stud Gov on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Who says anyone in Student Government is representing Penn students needs? Look at all the Class Boards doing whatever they want and we elected those idiots.. What would stop SPEC from doing whatever they want?

By Seniors on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Seniors should have been given some kind of priority. This will be our last fling and the majority of people with floor passes will be pledges. WTF.

By James on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

@OpenYrEyes but going to a concert that isn’t this one would mean venturing outside of the bubble. THAT’S NOT SAFE

By ditto disappointed on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Turn the stage around!! SPEC can still divide the floor space into sections to make security easier. give the front area to those who stayed up to buy floor passes. this will be awful in the bleachers ..

By victor stagnetti on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

waiting 9 hours to get a ticket.. this was certainly an experience.

By Dayglow on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

…..dayglow anyone? Fuck this shit I’m not going to dance in the stands

By yesimad on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

PUSH STAGE BACK. It’s common sense.

By SPEC should... on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Push the stage back and give people who already have general tickets the option of upgrading

By Wrong SPEC on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

SPEC Concerts, not Spring Fling, handles artist selection and ticket sales. If you are going to whine about the unfairness of the ticket sale, at least blame the right people.

By Some guy on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

By agreed on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Agreed. Spec should allow those with general tickets the option of upgrading IF they manage to get floor tickets later.

By @DAYGLOW on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

definitely considering this now!

By Sucks to be you on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

@WRONG SPEC – amen to that, people need to get the facts straight.
- if you wanted to get tickets, you should have stood in line like the tradition of every other year.
- if you want to complain, you should join the committee and change things yourself.
- if you want to move the stage, contact franklin field and penn athletics, the people that tell SPEC what to do, maybe they can answer your questions as SPEC doesn’t have the control.
- if you have problems, you should do something about it instead of whining on a website.
- if you were camped out last night for tickets, kudos to your skills, you deserve that ticket.

By petition on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

let’s do something about this. can somebody make a petition?

By agree with Open Yr Eyes on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Honestly, there’s soooo many concerts with equally famous artists in the philly/nyc/atlantic city area. why are ppl camping out for floor tkts???? u could just go to coachella, dayglow, etcccc

By FUCK THE GRASS! on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Apparently… the stage cannot be moved back because administration doesn’t want to “ruin the grass.”

Grass grows back. Tiesto does not.

Simple solution… fuck. the. grass.

By Suggestion to SPEC on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

To whom it may concern,

SPEC (or whoever has authority on the matter) should really consider moving the stage farther back onto the field to allow for a much larger floor area. EDM performances nearly always rely on a large dance floor and really never have bleacher or stadium seating. Since it’s dance music, people should be expected to dance and standing in bleachers will either make it difficult or dangerous to danger. Given that many people will be intoxicated, I would imagine people will not make the wise decision to not dance on a narrow platform and will instead dance and likely hurt themselves and others.

If this is a matter you do not have control over, I would be happy to write to whomever does have some say in this.

By umad on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

They probably won’t push the stage back because they don’t want hundreds of people dancing on the grass.

By Alex Ball on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Dayglow is looking pretty good right now.

By Word of the day: dumb on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

First of all, Franklin Field is turf, there is no grass to ruin.

It’s one thing to stand in line and wait for tickets that are sold at 10 AM. That’s all fine and fair. What’s not fair is that you’re going to hand out the wristbands at 2 AM. If that’s when you’re going to start selling tickets, you should probably announce “Ticket Sale at 2AM.”. Otherwise, where do you draw the line? Students who thought that 4 AM was early enough should have at least found a line, not that all wristbands had been given out 8 hours prior to ticket sale time.

Lastly, seniors deserve first priority. I don’t care how crazy you are about rolling and seeing Tiesto as a freshman. You have 3 more flings to get floor passes for. It is only fair to give seniors the first opportunity during their very last spring fling concert.

And that is why SPEC’s word of the day is DUMB.

By @WORD OF THE DAY: DUMB on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Ticket sales were not at 2am, it was a way to count the amount of people already in line to prevent heartbreak hours later when tickets went on sale at 10am, as they did, and only the first 370 got tickets. SPEC was doing the right thing by looking out for those that wouldn’t inevitably make it when they were waiting at that time. Please prevent yourself from being misinformed and do the correct research.

By Michael Arnstein on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

Just so everybody is aware, SPEC has officially gone ~on the record~ [via SPEC Concerts Presents: Tiësto with Passion Pit Facebook group] saying that “Unfortunately, due to venue restrictions we are unable to push the stage back.”

By IDGAF on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

I’m gonna rage on the bleachers

By ^^ on March 22, 2012 at 12:03 am

if you are giving out options to buy tickets, can you explain exactly how that differs from selling the ticket?
