Hair Charity Hilarity

Omigod you guys!  Penn Singers is putting on Legally Blonde and the whole operation is contingent upon the leading lady getting the perfect hair dye.  Rena Rowan Run, what?  Penn Singers wants you to spend your shekels on a visit to the salon (a wig just won’t do).  You can even get your name in the program!  Check out the email after the jump, and consider doing your part to save a strand.  It’s for charity.

Hi Everyone!

As many of you know, Penn Singers is putting on Legally Blonde: The Musical this semester, and we need YOUR help! Due to high production costs, we have put together a campaign to raise money to dye our leading lady’s hair blonde. Sarah Middough (UPenn C’14) will be playing Elle Woods in our upcoming production, and in an effort to refrain from renaming the show Legally Brunette, we are getting her hair professionally dyed.

This is where we need your help! Obviously, this is an incredibly expensive endeavor, and we are reaching out to our friends and family to help make it all possible. Below you will find a link to an Indiegogo campaign, where you can learn more about the project and about the rewards available to those who donate. Any donation amount is appreciated. We have a limited amount of time to complete our goal, and thus every single dollar counts.

Thank you in advance for your donation, and please let me know if you have any questions! And tell your friends! We want this to be a community effort, and together, we can make Sarah’s blonde dreams a reality!

Best,
XXXXX

It should be noted that they’re asking for $500

This counts as news? UTB has really gone downhill.

By Penn on October 11, 2012 at 5:09 pm

Because indiegogo has a minimum donation of $500.

By Anon on October 11, 2012 at 5:09 pm

Legally Brunette? Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

By Trevor on October 11, 2012 at 5:09 pm

I think $500 is the minimum amount Indiegogo will let you raise officially. But this is so funny! Vote for Elle!!

Penn Singers is just a mess.

If $500 is the minimum, shouldn’t they be upfront about that and not imply to the donators that they’ll actually use all the money on hair? Because it won’t cost that much. And if they do use the whole $500 on the dye job, then they’ll have to go out of their way to have it done at such a high price just to justify the amount they’re asking for, which seems a little wrong to me.

This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of. There are real causes that people should donate their money to. This is such a slap in the face to people who are trying to raise money for legitimate things. Why doesn’t this acapella group or whatever it is just buy her a blonde wig? Look I googled it for you. https://www.google.com/search?q=blonde+wig&oq=blonde+wig&sugexp=chrome,mod=0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Stop wasting people’s time.

Disclaimer:
This is fundraising (not a charity event) just like every other group does, and it’s a little more creative than a bake sale. It’s also a fun and silly way to get our show out there into the Penn community. Hopefully now more people are aware of the arts going on and will support them, not just by helping us fund-raise, but by attending the productions!

Also, as someone who was on that email, learn to fucking BCC

By To Megan on October 11, 2012 at 5:09 pm

This isn’t wasting peoples time. If they aren’t interested- then they don’t donate. You only wasted your time trying to prove them wrong by googling ugly wigs.
Stop wasting your own time.

@Casual Observer HELL YES. Seriously guys.

By To Penn Singers on October 11, 2012 at 5:09 pm

That’s all well and good, but you’re continuing to willfully ignore the argument that you’re asking for too much and only chose $500 because it’s the indiegogo minimum. Post links to the research you did which made you independently arrive at the $500 figure, and people will be more forgiving. Or else admit that it won’t cost that much and inform the donors that some of their money is going to things you hadn’t previously informed them about.

Calm your tits

By But what about on October 11, 2012 at 5:09 pm

a wig…? Is there a vaild reason why you guys are opting not to use one?

By RE: TO PENN SINGERS on October 11, 2012 at 5:09 pm

Keep in mind Penn Singers will also need to dye the girl’s hair back which doubles the cost….so while $500 may not be an exact estimate, I’m sure the other money will not be put to waste. This is just a fundraiser for the group with the majority of the money set aside for a specific purpose. And as said before, if you have a problem, don’t donate :)
