This little guy has been chilling on College Green all day. Either somebody’s mommy thought this was an appropriate place to throw stuff out, or we’ve got a Baby’s Day Out situation on our hands. In any case, free carseat.
World, meet ALPHA: a bike that is so high-tech and fancy pants we practically expect it to have a personality. Since its completion just a couple weeks ago, it’s been picked up by Wired magazine (among others), and Core77 called it “Possibly the Most High-Tech Bicycle Ever.” And oh, yeah! It was built by Penn students!
Over the past year, MEAM Seniors Geoff Johnson, Lucas Hartman, Katie Savarise, Evan Dvorak and Katie Rohacz have been working to create the first bicycle with a fully internal drivetrain, and the result is just about the coolest bike we’ve ever seen–not to mention 1st place winner at the 2011 SEAS Senior Design Competition on Friday. For more pictures and details on all of ALPHA’s other features, check out their website here.

Jumping on the recent bandwagon of dressing up in furry animal costumes for unclear reasons: THIS GUY! He was spotted in Houston, hanging with some bros and doing whatever giant pretend rodents do. We think he’s a squirrel, but who even knows anymore.
After receiving a slew of contest submissions in all shapes and sizes (most of them in the wee hours before the deadline), we’ve spent all day deliberating and reveling in all this power, but we’ve finally landed on a winner. So, without further ado, the pair of Fling floor passes goes to……
We really loved Alex’s parody of the LCD Soundsystem song “New York I Love You,” which he aptly titled “UPenn I Love You.” It made us laugh. It made us cry. It explicitly mentioned how awesome we are (but that’s not why we chose it). Have a listen here: UPenn I Love You
Sadly we can’t give tickets out to everyone we like, but we do want to recognize a couple more submissions that were especially creative. Check out the Honorable Mentions after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
