It’s the weekend, it’s TIME TO SHIII-II-IIINE, capture the future, together, etc. Aside from the extravaganzapalooza happening at our very own Penn Park, there’s lots of other great stuff in your city this weekend.

Friday: There’s a beer garden at The Porch at 30th Street Station right now! Until 8 PM! Get on it! Especially if you got boxed out of Time 2 Shine registration, yo. #realtalk

–> This Crave Sign Looks Ridiculous

If sign-age aesthetics said anything about venue quality, then Crave would be joining MarBar in 40th and Walnut bar heaven sooner than you can say “Dinner and a movie, please.” But despite the 6th-grade-girl doodles on their sign (and seriously, who makes “a”s like that anymore?), the local PA brews do actually make this seem like an enticing stop for those looking to mix up their bar scene a bit.

There Will Be a Senior Beer Garden At Homecoming— In case you automatically delete all emails from Jibran Khan (what? never!), we just want to give you the heads up on Saturday's free beer situation. To get into the seniors-only tent you have to register by tonight at 11:59 p.m here, but if you miss that there's also free booze in Houston at 10 p.m. Rage?

What’s HapPENNing?

Look around, friends: autumn is au-pon us! Teehee! See, we just used the first two letters of “autumn” to change “upon” to “au-pon.” Wasn’t that clever? Tell us we’re clever! No! Tell us! We’re all only children and we demand attention NOW! Please!? Why are you ignoring us!? Say that we’re pretty! Do it! Anyway, what’s happening this week?

Clothesline Project

More Brew For Your Buck

Allegro’s, University City Beverage, that one girl with a car in your freshman writing seminar you talked to once: these are the prime resources in the Land of Beer-Me Now. And they’re great. But, like that late night Taco Bell run to fill the void you didn’t know was there, Local 44 is here to save the day.

The name ‘Local 44′ is currently associated exclusively with the bar located at 44th (duh) and Spruce, but the owners are now planning to open a bottle shop just next door. What’s a bottle shop, you ask? Well, in this case it means a room filled with 400 types of beer available for purchase. Self-proclaimed beer snobs, rejoice!

While the intent to open the shop was made public back in April, the owners announced a few days ago that they signed a lease–so you can officially up your level of emotional investment from “sloppy make out in Owls late night” to “every other weekend FWB.” We’ll keep you posted.

Sips, Sips, Sips-adelphia

Let’s treat the July 4th holiday the good ol’ fashioned Penn way: by starting the weekend pregame on Wednesday, of course! Center City Sips can be intimidating, so we’re here to offer a way to narrow your choices and be as productive and efficient as possible.

If you want beer: Tavern 17 has a different draught selection daily, but if it’s local, it’s part of their Sips special. Ditch the Yuengling for a night and try something new. Other good options: Noble American Cookery and Fadó.

Philly Beer Week Starts Tonight

Philly Beer Week is back with a vengeance. Last year we provided a roundup of everything happening in our backyard, but this time PBW took the lead and made you a schedule that can be found here.

We still definitely encourage getting into downtown proper (or beyond!) for some of the better events. After all, Sips isn’t for 6 days; there’s a whole lot of brew to consume until then.

After the jump, a sampling of things you simply must do for the week. And by must do, we either mean they genuinely look awesome, or they sound absolutely absurd. You decide which is which.

Party Foul

Some miscreant spilled beer all over Williams today, causing hordes of students to flock to one side of the hallway and eye the brew longingly. The entire second floor (actually the ground floor, because whoever designed Williams was clearly good at counting) smelled. Happy St. Patrick’s Day, and may your cup runneth over! (Just not onto the floor.)

C’mere For Beer!

Considering how often we post about beer, we practically predicted the fact that Esquire would list Philly as one of the seven Best Beer Cities in America for 2011. Sometimes referred to as “Drunkadelphia” (oh wait, that was us too), Philly has been known to put back a few in celebration, anticipation, or at brunch, but now we’ve also proven our chops in the classier side of boozing.

Not only does the article cite Philly Beer Week as a reason for such awesomeness, but it also mentions our very own City Tap House as the ideal place to get your beer on. Don’t we know it.
