Remember when we told you about how Penn Course Review had improved its internal structure by adding in a better search function and other fancy new doodads? Unfortunately, it seems that the new system is fraught with many alleged errors, like listing professors under wrong courses and giving other false information. That ain’t right! And yet, these concerns shed light on an even larger issue. The entire concept of PCR is kind of… Well, how much do you value the opinions of other undergraduates when forming your own academic decisions? Professor Max Cavitch of the English Department summed up these concerns quite nicely in an email sent out to English majors today:
A new and “improved” beta version of the Penn Course Review went on-line today. DO NOT USE IT. It is FULL of errors. For example, dozens and dozens of courses in the English Department alone are listed under the wrong professor and/or course title.
How annoying is it when you drag yourself out of bed to class and the professor isn’t there? You’re all like, what the hell is this guy doing, worst class ever, etc… and then you find out, via an email sent while you’re waiting in class, that the professor isn’t there because he died. And the department forgot to tell you.
That’s what happened in PSCI-291 last week. After the jump, read the awkward email explaining the “oversight” of not telling a class that the professor had passed away over the summer.

Hey, lazies! Trying to get into a night-school section of that pesky Sector requirement? Daytime Math 170 proving too difficult? You’ll have to be a bit patient, because you can’t register for any of those -601 classes until Thursday. College students are barred from registering until, you know, actual LPS students get their chance. Keep in mind, those legit LPS-ers can fill up a whole class, so you should probably start tripping any old people you see. Just in case.
