Let’s face it: as nice as it is to see our loved ones on Family Weekend, after a few hours, they’re overstaying their welcome. If your grandma is being judgmental and getting overall embarrassing, why allow them loiter on Locust? This weekend is the perfect opportunity to get to hotspots on campus and in University City that you’ve never made it to – and on your parents’ dime. So don’t let the fam mess with your rep! After you’ve covered the worthwhile FW events, make them to take you where you’d never make it otherwise:
1) Morris Arboretum: Mom and dad came with a car! Oh, the luxury. Take the short drive to Morris, which is operated by Penn and is casually the official arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. And there is tons of flora. This weekend is especially convenient because the Scarecrow Walk opens tomorrow and Sunday is the annual Fall Festival! Feel the autumn spirit in the pumpkin patch and revel in the biodiversity. Read the rest of this entry »
Excited to order the $65 sushi platter at Pod this weekend, packing in 4 and a half rolls on your parents tab? We sure hope not!
On Saturday and Sunday, Bon Appétit is offering a complimentary (read: FREE) brunch for you and your family at Hill or Commons. Swipe one visit from your dining plan, and three of your family members get to eat with you at no extra cost.* If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Nothing like sharing some escarole soup with cream of asparagus garnish, topped with a dollop of heavy cream (coated with a scintilla of nutmeg) with the ‘rents!
All we can say is, Bon Appétit!

Week 8 of The Bachelorette kicked off with Ashley’s anticipation about the episode’s hometown dates. She tells us that she looks forward to seeing the guys’ real personalities come out around their families. Yeah, because that’s exactly how it works on family weekend.
Unfortunately for Ashley, hometowns weren’t as interesting as producers had hoped, so the first ten minutes of the episode feature her previous moments with the four remaining beaus, and her voiceover confessing how physically attractive she finds each one, followed by vague descriptions of their inner beauty like, “There’s just something about him.”

Man, this weekend is going to be OFF THE CHAIN. Ever since we got that first Thanksgiving invite to sit at the grown-ups table, we have loved, loved, loved hanging with adults. And since Family Weekend starts today, they’re going to be everywhere! Walking around on Locust, taking their kids to Marathon, buying piles and piles of crap at the bookstore. So much fun! If that wasn’t awesome enough, Penn’s planned some sweet family activities. Check out the full schedule here and our picks for what you should hit up below.
Classes With Your Students
Friday, 10:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Hey parents, everybody really wants you to do this. Your children won’t be embarrassed, their classmates won’t be weirded out, and the professors won’t recognize you from high school and act all awkward. None of that will happen, so yeah, totally sit in on lecture and make sure to answer lots of questions and laugh real loud at every last one of the professor’s jokes. Read the rest of this entry »
