Hoorah! The world is flung! But we at Street still have some weekly words we’d like to share with you. Like how to win FLINGO (like BINGO, duhhhh!).
We’ve also got some dos and don’ts of Fling. Remember, punching an R.A. is never the right idea. So we’ve also provided some tips on how to infuse your food with special liquid. Yum.
As usual, Music gives you the lowdown on what’s going on with these dudes performing tomorrow night. Arts takes you deep inside the depths of bathroom stall art. Let’s face it — we’ll all end up face first in a bathroom at some point this weekend.
For those looking for a 90–minute getaway from the Quad, check out Film’s drunk/ high/ sober film selections. Still want more flingin’ flangin’ fun? Check out or SPEC–tacular egos of the week.
Don’t forget to take out the Guide to Fling! (You can also find online on your phone at 34st.com/fling.) It may come in handy when you’re stumbling around trying to find your crush’s band on a random stage at 1:53 p.m. on Saturday.
Yay! Now we can start pressuring him to throw some Penn remixes out there. “Paris, Tokyo?” Holler at Philly! “Dumb It Down?” More like, “We’re All Smart,” amirightfolks. “I Don’t Wanna Care Right Now” is definitely his anthem to midterms, but someone please tell this guy his “Gold Watch” are sooo 2007. Trendy white watches are so fetch.
It’s officially less than a month until we can all kick, push, or coast to “The Show Goes On (at Franklin Field),” so we’ll work on some better puns for then.
Remember that “M.U.S.I.C. for Your Mind” crew that put on the actually kind of awesome Girl Talk show?
Apparently they’re at it again– sorta. MUSIC FYM has started hardcore promoting an upcoming Lupe Fiasco concert in conjunction with (the definitely not random) SPEC, Pi Kapp, and Kappa Sig. The event’s Facebook group has like 800 people in it already.
Lupe coming here to actually perform? Sweet! Let’s all go right now and buy tickets and mark it in our calendars and– wait. There’s not actually a date yet. You can only reserve your tickets in a Google spreadsheet. And they don’t have an opener. Weeelll, MUSIC FYM, you better not be getting our hopes up– we’re trying to get our Superstar on as soon as possible.
It’s about time Lupe Fiasco and historian Howard Zinn joined forces. Lupe and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels are going to be reading speeches featured in the new History Channel documentary, The People Speak, tonight at Irvine. You will probably want to be there.
The film is inspired by Howard Zinn’s books, A People’s History of the United States and Voices of a People’s History and features celebrities as awesome as Don Cheadle and as Danish-American as Viggo Mortensen reading the words of people who fought for change. We were hoping Zinn was going to get a guest spot on The Cool, but that never happened, so this is a nice consolation prize. After the readings, there’s going to be a panel discussion and Q&A session. Questions for McDaniels about Run’s House will be frowned upon by everyone but us, so take that into consideration when you step up to the mic.
It all goes down at 7 p.m. Tickets are free but you only have 2 hours to reserve a spot! Jump on that here.
