Word is Magic Johnson, five time NBA Champion (yeah, five times! who knew?), will be here at Penn today taking a look at the school with his son. If this is true, remember this: celebrities are people too, guys!
Sometimes they need to look at schools without people interrupting to tell them how most of their tuition was paid thanks to money earned on a bet their father made on the ’88 Finals or how much they loved those Magic Hour tapes they found in their basement, so we recommend that you just let the man take this tour in peace.
In conclusion, our official advice: let him be, maaaybe take a picture from afar, send it in, and make us proud, Penn.
This week we heard speculation that Jon Huntsman (ambassador to China and son of Jon Huntsman, the Hall) would be the commencement speaker for the class of 2010. And we were all, “Say whattttt? They already know?!”
So we investigated, and our stud gov source told us that commencement speaker selection began last October. Silliness. Wonder how he’ll compare to Eric Schmidt and James Franco…or if this is just totally bogus hearsay.
Who do you want as your commencement speaker? Tell us in the comments.
Tabard, haven't you heard? Red is the new green.
This just in: according to Guster’s MySpace, the band is playing a show on April 17th in Philly as part of their College Consciousness tour. Could it be that they’re part of the Fling line-up? It’s not like we haven’t been totally right about this sort of thing before. If you’ve got even more proof, post it in the comments!
SPEC isn’t scheduled to spill the beans on this year’s Spring Fling performer until the end of February or early March, but we’re hearing whispers right now (na na na) that this year’s pick is none other than Akon! A listing for Fling Friday was spotted on concert listing site JamBase earlier today (but has since been removed), and the date is still up on Akon’s Tour Tracker page (screenshot here).
These sites could be totally off base, but as juniors and seniors may recall, this is exactly how the Ben Folds leak of ’07 went down. Akon is definitely more in line with last year’s crowd-pleasing Ludacris concert than the vanilla alt-rockers of previous years. So what do we think? Could it be true? Only the bigwigs at SPEC can confirm for real, but if you’ve got any other leads, you know where to send them.
