"Hey, Do You Know That Song..." Actually, Yes, We Do!

By day, Lauren Lipsay is a Street editor. But by night, she’s Penn’s best (and only) female DJ. In her new feature, Pissed Jockey, DJLips will let us in on secrets and stories from the world behind the turntables. Have you ever had a song stuck in your head? Okay, rhetorical question; everyone has. But here’s a good one: have you ever had a song stuck in your head whose name you could not, for the life of you, remember? While normal people might be able to brush it off and chalk it up to that bong hit from last weekend, I can’t.
In the past, when songs’ melodies tormented me, I was forced to sing them to friends, family members, other DJs--pretty much anyone with a shot at naming the song. A notable example: I could not recall the name of this song for two years.
Thanks to the magic of the Internet, however, I will never, ever have to wait so long again. Watzatsong.com is a complete godsend. It’s a forum where you can submit queries about songs and answer other peoples’ tune amnesia. Submitting a query entails either uploading a file or--yes, I really had to do this--singing/humming the melody of the song into your computer. Within minutes, people will make guesses at the song’s title and artist, and you’ll receive email notifications about each one. Honestly... genius.
PS: If you search hard enough on Watzatsong, you might be lucky enough to find me belting out this classic '80s melody, whose name recently escaped my memory. Happy humming, everyone!
