The Golden Globe Nominees Have Been Announced!
December 12, 2008 at 10:45 am
If, like me, you get irrationally excited at awards season (my list of things that rock basically goes: the Oscars, my birthday, the Emmys, Mad Men, Ben and Jerry's Vermonty Python), then you've been looking forward to this for weeks. OK, so it's not the Oscars, but, in a way, the Golden Globes are even better. The celebs actually sit and eat dinner instead of awkwardly twiddling their thumbs in a massive theater, and–-the coup de grace–-TV is included. If, like me, you couldn't live without your TiVo, the Golden Globes are simply awesome.
I'm not going to include the entire list here–it's freaking long–but here are a few highlights.
BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
1. THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON 2. FROST/NIXON 3. THE READER 4. REVOLUTIONARY ROAD 5. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
BEST MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
1. BURN AFTER READING 2. HAPPY-GO-LUCKY 3. IN BRUGES 4. MAMMA MIA! 5. VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA
BEST TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA
1. DEXTER (SHOWTIME) 2. HOUSE (FOX) 3. IN TREATMENT (HBO) 4. MAD MEN (AMC) 5. TRUE BLOOD (HBO)
BEST TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
1. 30 ROCK (NBC) 2. CALIFORNICATION (SHOWTIME) 3. ENTOURAGE (HBO) 4. THE OFFICE (NBC) 5. WEEDS (SHOWTIME)

Of course, half of the nominated movies haven't come out yet, but that's actually great news for those of us who have basically nothing to do for the next month. Seeing high school friends gets old pretty quickly. And keep your eyes peeled for our Oscar Watch, the movies you should and should not see to get ready for the big day. If, like me, you think of the Oscars as your Superbowl, this list will come in handy.
PS, Golden Globe nominee chooser people (aka, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association): the fact that How I Met Your Mother has been left off the Best TV Comedy list is a crime of epic proportions. Shame on you.
