There seems to be a new genre of rap permeating Penn's campus. The newest of Penn-spoofing rap songs (and heck, this counts too) has entered the cyber airwave; the single, "UPenn Girls," written and performed by Steve Markowitz and produced by Theos bro Brett Copell, is a riff on Charles Hamilton's Brooklyn Girls.
Remember Markowitz (aka Steve Witz), our Campus Cred from November? To refresh your memory, Witz is half of hip hop duo Hoodie Allen, along with childhood friend and Tufts student Obey City. Witz has been making moves since we last spoke to him, racking up over 50,000 listens on MySpace. More notably, Hoodie Allen made their debut on iTunes last month with The Bagels and Beats EP. A lyrical sampling from the shmear-loving Long Island native: "So now I'm frying up potato latkes/Arrested for seduction/You say I'm Frank Sinatra." What you won't find on the EP is "UPenn Girls," which reminds us of a certain other sorority name-dropping track. Have a listen, and tell us what you think in the comments section!
