Lofted Beds Are The New Black

At Penn, if the housing gods smile upon you, you will spend your freshman year in a spacious two-room Quad double replete with all the amenities your 18-year-old self could ever desire — a bay window, fireplace, mantle, hardwood floors, high ceilings, an awesome roommate, a kegerator. And while Hell Hill residents claim to love the women's-prison-cum-coed-dormitory (big ups to Eero Saarinen, who also designed the St. Louis Arch!), many still yearn for air conditioning, floor space, and the awesomely collegiate look of the Quad.

But fear not Hillites present and future: UTB has unearthed something that will make those lame Quad kids green with envy. Feast your eyes on Design Your Dorm, "a web-based 3-D interior design tool that allows students to customize their dorm room interiors." That's right, simply select your college, dorm, and room number, and a detailed 3-D model appears. SO. COOL. (And so much easier to decipher than these diagrams, which can weirdly only be accessed via Internet Explorer.)

For reasons unbeknownst to us, the only Penn dorm available on the site is Hill. This confuses us, but we're hopeful more dorms will pop up soon. For now, we leave you with Hill 301:

UPDATE: Design Your Dorm managing partner Bryce Widelitz e-mailed us: "We are currently working with the UPenn and are doing a "pilot test" starting with Hill College House. After the first year, the university will decide whether or not they would like us to do the rest of their halls."
