Dia De Los Distritos

As Distrito knows, Halloween is just one big pregame for the real fall holiday-- Dia de los Muertos! The campus favorite is not going to let the Day of the Dead slide by without a party. Much like the Cinco de Mayo events they've had in the past, they'll be running specials all day and even have a DJ at night.
The best part? Some of the proceeds go to Puentes de Salud, a health-based nonprofit for area Hispanics.
We previewed some of their yummy menu-- inspired by traditional Mexican holiday fare-- after the jump!
First we had some Hiramasa (fancy word for yellowtail) Ceviche in a delicious sauce that's got blood orange segments, radish, lime, jalapeños, and micro arugula. This comes as the second course after Warm Lobser Cappucino in the $65 Herradura Tequila dinner.
Next, Street ed Josh Goldman tried the Red Chile and Pork Tamale with Oaxacan black mole. He really enjoyed it and, after sampling the mole, I was totally down with the sweet-yet-kinda-spicy taste.
In the pre-set menu (incluing a cocktail reception and tequila pairings throughout the meal), Braised Goat with smoked bacon black beans and citrus salad would come next.
Finally, we had Chocolate Flan for dessert, which is like regular flan but a thousand times better. It was super rich and super tasty.
If the $65-a-head menu sounds a little out of your price range, don't worry! They also have specials at the downstairs Cantina. This includes:
- Esquites: sweet corn with queso fresch and chipotle mayo ($3)
- Nacos Ignacio: with black beans, poblano, queso mixto and pickled jalapeños ($7)
- Alambres: hangar steak, shrimp, or chicken skewers ($6 to $7).
- Cans of Tecate and Modelo Especial ($2)
- Dos Equis Amber and Lager draughts ($4)
- Specialty cocktails ($5)
