Penn Alum Wins Gold In London
August 3, 2012 at 10:39 am
C'04 and G'04 graduate Susan Francia won her second consecutive gold medal in the 2000-meter rowing finals, repeating her performance in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, as reported by the Penn Gazette's blog. And all this after a severe herniated disk (oh my!) and broken ribs.
But it gets even more exciting! Who better to award Francia the gold than L'77 Anita DeFrantz, who lead the women's eight to the bronze in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal? This victory makes Francia the first Quaker to win two consecutive golds in over 80 years. Check out Francia above, competing in the Women's Olympic Medal Bite. Talk about Penn skills.
