Welcome back and happy syllabus day! While you were home on break attempting to prove to your relatives that you do have a postgraduate future, one Penn biomolecular archaeologist was busy getting his drank on.

Patrick McGovern was recently featured on NBC News for not only studying an ancient Nordic alcohol called a “grog”, but for teaming up with Dogfish Head Craft Brewery to reconstruct the “grog” named Kvasir which can now be purchased in liquor stores across the United States.

McGovern was able to find the ingredients for the anicent Nordic alcohol by analyzing samples from gravesites in Sweden and Denmark and by looking at ancient Nordic pottery for traces of alcohol. Cheers to McGovern, and good luck to all of you who just changed your major to biomolecular archaeology. We hear they have great happy hours.
