Things Penn Is Building And Isn't Building But Should Be Building

Campus is definitely alive with the sweet sound of jackhammers. It seems like everywhere we turn, a new building is popping up and it's hard to keep them all straight. Penn has put over 60 MIL of our (parents', donors') hard-earned $$$ into 40 construction sites since this summer alone.

What's coming:

  • Fall 2016: Fancy 190K square-foot College House at Hill Field designed by the dude who designed Apple stores, with a dining hall, "multimedia center" and air conditioning this time. Shoutout to the future frosh that gets the third floor room currently housing the port-a-potty!
  • Summer 2015: A new retail/residential space at 40th and Chestnut: 2 lower floors of retail and 65 apartments for undergrads and grads that Penn has trendily named "3939 Hub."
  • April 2015: A new retail/administrative office building across from SDT at 3901 Walnut, built on the still-fresh grave of our beloved Philly Diner.
  • January 2016: Perry World House near the 38th Street bridge, housing conference rooms and a lecture hall for impressing VIIPs (Very Important International People).
  • Early 2015: Kelly Writers House upgrade-- outdoor reading and performance venue and a student project space complete with recording studio so people can hear us say profound things for years to come.
  • Fall 2016: A sparkly new Neural and Behavioral Sciences Center to provide a nice contrast to the dingy yellowness of Leidy Labs.

What we wish were coming:

  • Something cool that's gonna be finished before half the school has already graduated. We are very bitter about this.
  • An actual dining hall in the quad because McClelland "sushi" is actually just rice with baby carrots inside and that is not cutting it.
  • Queen's Court, an even more obscure College House that we can all make fun of.
  • Skywalks between the high rises.
  • A Whomping Willow.
  • A wall between us and Drexel. Just kidding mostly.
  • A ferris wheel so we can pretend we're at Coachella when we're really just at Fling.
  • Demolition of every fugly concrete building made in the dark ages of architecture (the 1970s), to be replaced with a bouncy castle.
