Penn Administration Veering Dangerously Towards Democracy

Credit: Emma Boey

In a deeply unsettling statement released earlier today, Penn’s administration collapsed before the will of the student body and suspended university operations for Thursday.

Penn is not the first Philadelphia school to participate in this dangerous, irresponsible trend of enabling the mad wishes of the common rabble. Earlier this week, Drexel and Temple meekly bowed to the screeching demands of students hell-bent on gawking at the celebrations of the local football team.

Instead of issuing a placatory statement about how Penn students already have plenty of opportunities to “connect” with Philadelphia (President Gutmann is looking to buy a couple acres of land in Center City in order to extend her backyard, donations are welcome!), the administration has foolishly encouraged students to recognize that petitions and political organization might actually effect tangible change. Ridiculous.

This is a dangerous, dangerous road.

At least the administration has some time to recover from its slow tilt towards rampant democratization. If one thing is true about democracy, it is a very, very slow process.

Just ask the UA.
