OP-ED: Dear Protesters, I Am a Whore, But Not Because I’m a Feminist

My name is Chad and I’m a whore. I am also a feminist. But Mr. Preacher: being a feminist is not what makes me a whore—I promise.

I first became a feminist when I realized that my mother and sister identify as women. I vowed to become a respectful man, holding doors open for women, wearing fedoras, and interjecting when my fellow men disrespect them. Now, while I don’t consider myself a hero per-se, I know I am an important, maybe the most important, part of the modern feminist movement, and feminism is an important part of who I am.

My whorishness is also a large part of my character. But don’t get me wrong: It has nothing to with the hundreds of notches in my belt. I just love being a whore, and everything that label entails me. Sure, many, if not all of my peers call me a "fuckboy" who "definitely gets laid all the time," but I don't believe in labels.

When I saw you on Locust, dude, I was appalled that you would link these two aspects of my identity.  Me being a feminist icon has in no way resulted in me being a whore. I'm honestly disappointed that you would tell me that my passion for social justice is in any way linked to my whorism: they're totally separate parts of my unique psyche. If you had just taken Stat 101, you'd know that correlation does not imply causation.
