I’ve been in this building since it was a women’s gym. Back then, there was excitement, activity, the smell of young sweat and hope. Now, it’s just stuffy English majors pretending to be interested in Marx or The Faerie Queene. I can’t take it anymore.
I hear people coming and going, but I can’t bring myself to leave. Sometimes I wander up and down the staircases for hours. No one looks at me. They know me by now, and I fade into the background. I am one with Fisher-Bennett.
I wish that I could leave. When I was going to graduate, I kept talking about how I was terrified to enter the real world. So I stayed here. Honestly, it might be better than working for a corporate law firm. I do wish I had more access to soup. That is my cross to bear. Please let me out, maybe during daytime hours. I promise I will be good.
