Last month, the United States signed the “Geneva Consensus Declaration” which supports the advancement of women in the family by denying access to abortion. The co-sponsors and co-signers of the declaration include countries with flawless human and women’s rights records, like Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Haiti, and the Congo.
The signing of the bill by the US does not come as a surprise since the Trump administration has been vocally anti-abortion since taking office. Previously, US President Donald Trump had referred to Haiti and African countries as “shithole countries”. Trump, when briefed that a bipartisan immigration deal would cover immigrants from Haiti and African countries, had asked “why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated that the US signing of the anti-abortion declaration was a calculated political move to reduce immigration.
“By signing such a staunchly medieval declaration with authoritarian regimes, the United States itself is becoming a shithole country,” said Pompeo. “And now that we are a shithole country, people from other shithole countries won't want to immigrate here anymore. The plan is flawless.”
