I Lived It: I Used My SDT Code to Buy Pool Party Tickets and It Made the Price More Expensive

Flashback to my sophomore year. It is NSO and of course I want to go to pool party because everyone else is going. I had such good values back then. I am added to the facebook group. The invite reads “I’m back. Get ready to get wet. GA I dropping Sunday at 5pm.” Ew that kinda makes me uncomfortable, I think to myself. Even though it meant spending a bunch of money to wait in a long line where everyone is pushing eachother, have a mild amount of fun, and then pay 20 more dollars to get a drink, I wanted to go.
One of my friends texted me, “hey did you get pool tickets?” Darnit! (I thought to myself). I missed GA 1. Now I would have to wait for the next ticket drop. But wait, somebody texted me that my sorority was offered a code to unlock our own tickets. Great! Now I could save some money on the tickets. Usually they give out codes to members of greek organizations to purchase the tickets for a cheaper price.
When GA 2 opened I read that the price for general admission was $70. Then I inserted my “discount code” and the price went up to $75. What kind of discount was this? Have I forgotten the definition of a discount? Was this a simple communication mistake between Pool Partington and posh? Did they mean to do this? I clicked on GA 2 so that I could save money, but they were already sold out. I let out a sigh of disappointment and purchased the tickets with the code.
Even though it was only a $5 difference, those $5 signaled to me that they knew that they could take advantage of me. Damn you Pool Partington. There’s not even a pool. Just a murky indent in the ground full of stagnant water that a famous actor from Stranger Things once jumped into.
Now I am a senior and I decided to skip pool party this time. No more waiting in line for the bathroom while getting verbally abused by the venue staff. No more texting random groupme or whatsapp chats saying “selling night pool.” No more awkwardly running into past romances. No more waiting in a long line where the bouncer pulls out pepper spray. I will hold these memories in my heart forever but hope to never experience them again.
